This test measures the amount of the hormone progesterone. It is used to help to find the cause of infertility, monitor the success of medicines for infertility, assess the risk of miscarriage, and monitor the function of the ovaries and placenta during pregnancy. It is also used to help diagnose problems with the adrenal glands and some types of cancer.
